Overview

We welcome you to the city of Cusco, Archaeological Capital of America and Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

If you are a traveler interested in soaking up new cultures, Cusco is the perfect destination for you. Andean culture is breathed in every corner of this city and is expressed in diverse customs, colorful traditional costumes, music and the Quechua language that survives the passage of time.

And the central market of San Pedro is the oldest supply center of Cusco. It was part of a section of the Inca road that connected with the Plaza Huacaypata (current Plaza de Armas). It was designed by the French architect Gustave Eiffel and inaugurated in 1925, a place where the aromas and flavors are intermingled with the tradition of an ancient culture.

It is fascinating to see that the history of our people is summarized in their food dishes. And that is precisely what you will find in the San Pedro Market: an offer of the most varied, particular and typical of the Cusquenian, Andean and Peruvian culinary tradition.

Itinerary

08:00 :

SAN PEDRO MARKET

08:00 We will start picking you up from your hotel, to begin your tour, accompanied by your guide you will visit the imposing San Pedro Market, a place that houses ancestral secrets, tradition and a mixture of cultures that make the city vibrate in each of its corners. There you will find everything you can imagine and more, from different varieties of potatoes, coffee, corn, cheese and quinoa, which are some of the basic products sold; to the famous Andean cheeses, chocolate, chuta bread, salt from Maras and aromatic herbs such as the unmistakable Muña or Coca leaf that walk among the warm smell of parboiled corn.

The Market is a jewel that keeps colors and textures among its handicrafts, fabrics and in the skirts hanging from the metal walls of each stall.

You will find delicious flavors among which stand out, a good head broth or a finger-licking marinade. But if you are looking for something lighter, you can relax while sipping a delicious fruit juice.

09:00 Then we will visit Qoriqancha or Temple of the Sun, the visit lasts about an hour, where you will learn about the Andean symbology, the connection with the stars and their importance in the Inca calendar.

The Qoriqancha was the most important religious temple of the Inca empire, destined to the sun god. People from all over the empire went there to worship and pay tribute to their gods, but the inside of the temple was reserved for the most important personalities of the time.

It has the walls with the finest work of carving. Due to its importance, the Qoriqancha was built with finely joined stones with an impressive precision that give it a sober aesthetic, According to the chroniclers, it was adorned with relics of gold, silver and other precious stones. During the Spanish invasion, the temple was looted. On its foundations, the Dominican order built the Temple and Convent of Santo Domingo.

10:00 Continuing with our visit, we will enter the Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park, where you will first visit the fortress of the same name, where you can appreciate the great stone walls inspired by the god Rayo and also samples of the magnificent water engineering of the Inca Empire.

Then we will transfer you to Q’enqo where you can appreciate the most important Ceremonial Huaca of the city, after enjoying Q’enqo you will visit Tambomachay, where you can observe beautiful ceremonial fountains which work perfectly since Inca times, to finally visit the complex of Pucapucara.

14:00 Optionally our guide will enter the temple of the Cathedral Basilica, The Cathedral of Cuzco is the result of several projects developed by different architects who were relieved at the head of the works. The first cathedral of Cuzco is the Church of the Triumph, built in 1539 on the base of the palace of Viracocha Inca,
